1s take on Sevenoaks, plus action at Park Lane from Sunday

We're delighted to be able to say that the cricket season for the Senior section of the club kicks off at Llamaland this weekend, though Sevenoaks Vine 2s have ensured it is a staggered start by pulling out of the 2s fixture. However Chris Murtagh will be leading the 1s into battle with a strong side on show at Sevenoaks, including debutante Michael Munday, newly arrived from Horsham.

On Sunday, there will be cricket at Llamaland and the bar will be open by (at worst) late afternoon during an internal match between the Cavaliers and a Rest of Club XI, a fixture arranged with a view to getting lots of llamas out on the park, and having a stretch after a busy winter's hibernation. Next weekend, the 1s will be at home v Hartley Park, with the 2s fulfilling the reverse fixture. The Pirates have a 3-match pre-season tour of Jersey, with Ross Gurbutt at the helm. Setting sail with him, he has a squad of 18-19 players, which is a fantastic effort, and is testament to how popular this tour has become over the last two seasons. I am sure that the tour will again be a great success, with fixtures at Farmers and Victoria College, which are both top-notch grounds.

The League starts for all 5 Senior XIs on Saturday May 5 (watch out for circulars about the Supporters' Lunch that day and the Bellew v Haye Part 2 Opening Season Social in the evening), with the 1s at home v Sunbury, last year's runners up. One other match to note is a T20 on Bank Holiday Monday May 7 at 3pm v Reigate Grammar School, so something to entertain you all on that Monday late afternoon!

Much to play for, and we approach the season in high spirits after a wonderful pre-season dinner, with star turn Geoff Miller entertaining 60-70 llamas royally. Get down to nets, get yourself ready for the season... there are runs to be scored, wickets to be taken, catches to be caught.... and league titles to be won!
