The 1s win but far more drama in the 2s match.

The 1s had a comfortable 8 wicket win at Esher which enabled more players and supporters to return and watch a great 2nd XI rear guard action.

Chasing 224 to win in 46 overs against Spencer the 2s found themselves 33 for 6 and facing defeat. Luke Haughton, opening, scored a quite magnificent 101 and ably supported by William Hodgson and George Elliston the tail was determined to save the game. Spencer managed to bowl 52 overs, 6 more than the expected number, and the 9th wicket fell with three balls remaining. Tension was huge with 2nd placed Spencer desperate for the win and last man Elliott Lodge grimly holding on for a creditable draw. Priory went from 33-6 to 151-9.

An absolutely compelling game of cricket and an overwhelming reason why club cricket should not become purely limited over. The current mix is fine.

Interesting that 8 of the Spencer lads were still socialising some 90 minutes after the game finished. Club cricket at its best.
