Dahl hits second innings 60 to follow Hall's first innings 77

Llama 1st teamer Sam Hall scored 77 for Surrey 2nd XI this week and Reigate teammate Angus Dhal was not to be outdone, scoring 60 in the second innings to help seal a draw.

After being asked to bat first, the Surrey top order experienced a disastrous opening session of the summer, losing their first five wickets for just 17 runs, with Nick Welch and Angus Dahl being dismissed for ducks and Will Jacks, Euan Woods and captain Freddie van den Bergh for just 2.

However, opener Arun Harinath (64) kept his head and battled back alongside 18-year-old wicket keeper Hall (77). Their partnership for the sixth wicket was worth 103 and lasted 32 overs before Harinath became Dutch seamer Paul van Meekeren’s third victim.

Hall carried on though, supported by Joe Hagen-Burt (39), with whom he partnered for another hour and half, moving the score along to 203/6, a significant improvement on 17/5.

Sadly, Hall followed Hagen-Burt – both to Roelof van der Merwe – and the loss of Gus Atkinson (0) and Alastair Allchin (1) completed the innings on 206.

Somerset amassed 466, and the game was in the balance when Dahl came to the crease with Surrey still 82 behind at 178/4.

However, in partnership with Woods (91), 18-year-old Dahl saw Surrey to 317/5, making 60 from 94 balls with nine fours.

That all but saw Surrey through to the end of the match with Joe Hagan-Burt and wicket keeper Hall completing the job.
