Reigate lose heavily in return fixture

Having beaten Banstead by two wickets the previous Saturday, the 4th XI (S Champ) Llamas travelled to Banstead to try to sweep the local rivals. Chris Hudson was deputising for Owen Morris (the normal skipper) on this occasion and was able to choose his squad from a selection of 16 available as the VI-Kings were not able to fulfil their own match. However only one player (Geoff Chay) was the same from the previous week's victory. The return of young players Matt Loft and Woody Goss was welcome and gave the Captain some hope that his eleven could hold their own. Having won the toss Hudson asked Banstead to bat first.
Despite a brief flurry of wickets at the hundred mark the opposition posted 241-3 and gave the Llamas a mountain to climb. This proved too much to ask of the team as a collapse in the top order led to defensive posture from the rest of side and they were all out for 79.
"I take full responsibility for the loss as the fielding tactics were not right on the day. We needed to be aggressive from the off against good batting side like Banstead. I think we might have also benefited from a few more slower bowlers as the track did a lot for theirs in the second innings. I hope I can make amends with a better batting contribution next week." reflected Hudson.
Next week Oxted are the visitors as Morris returns to drive the team towards win number 2.
