As already stated in the Match 1 coverage Joey would have loved the cricket between the Club and RGS, and the fact that he would have coached so many of those playing in this later senior game was not lost on any of those involved.
As we heard from the two Captains, Phil Davies and Richie Oliver, it wasn't just the coaching that Joey will be remembered for. It was the gentle, fun-loving man, who was such a good friend to so many. He always found the positives to highlight across the whole team or group that he was involved with.
The fact that he is held in such high esteem by so many people whose lives that he touched is testament to the gentleman and good soul that he was, and he is sorely missed.
With the school having taken the honours in the afternoon, it was all to play for in the evening session. Spoiler alert... the Seniors levelled it, so the honours were shared evenly, although the Cup went to the Club!
The weather was set fare, the music was flowing, the crowds swelled to their hundreds, the food trucks were doing a roaring trade, the Pilgrim Brewery and the Priory bars were well engaged.
It was almost a case of 'England (RPCC) expects', and with the encouragement from the great commentary team, giving biased comments (naturally) in favour of the Club and giving a good humoured drubbing to the ORs, that we had a much closer match than the afternoon.
Thanks go to Kevin Timmons for scoring.
The Old Reigatians won the toss and elected to bat. Rory and Luke Haughton opened the batting and with plenty of encouragement from the commentary team (ahem!) Luke was instructed to (or was it serious questioning?) hit the boundary. Luke followed the commentary and peppered the boundary with eleven 4s and one 6 in his outstanding innings of 54 off 25.
Unfortunately Rory fell for 6 (9) from Sri's bowling. That brought Jamie Quantick to the crease and he knocked a quick fire 19 (11) including three fours, before he was LBW to Jun Mackrell a rising star in the youth ranks who at 14 is second leading wicket taker for the club to Callum Gurbutt by 1 wicket!
Will Irving came to the crease and scored 14 (18) including one one 4 before he was caught by Jacob McLoughlin from the bowling of Jun Mackrell.
Will Timmons knocked a quick fire 24 (25) including one 4 and one 6, before he was caught by Ben Ware off the bowling of S Clark.
J Smith knocked a classy 15 (19) including one 4 before being caught by Jacob McLoughlin from the bowling of Will Brewis.
J Randall fell for 0 (2) to the bowling of S Clark, before M Stevens knocked 11 (12) before being run out by S Bell.
Richie Oliver bowled the last over and had Olly Harris caught by Jun Mackrell for 0 (1).
In reply the Llamas started off brusquely with Srikanth Vuppala scoring 12 (16) hitting two 4s before being caught by Will Irving.
Ben Ware was the mainstay of the attack at two, scoring 55 off 32 with five 4s and three 6s., before being caught and bowled by Olly Harris.
Seth McDowall played a great innings scoring 30 (22) with two 4s and one 6, before Rory Haughton (who caught a lot of flack from the commentary team) bowled him.
Jacob McLoughlin was next in and was 36* (26) with four 4s. S Clark was 5 (8) being caught by Olly Harris off the bowling of Rory Haughton.
S Bell was a commendable 18 (10) with two 4s before being caught by Rory Haughton off the bowling of Ed Russ.
Two batters didn't trouble the scorers, B Sodomaco run out 0 (3) and T Frost 0 (2) c&b by Rory Haughton. Will Brewis was the final batter to the crease 1* (2).
Priory reached their target scoring 172-7 (19.4) chasing ORs 168 all out (20.0).
