De Mello hands over power to Gregson in bloodless coup

On ya mate

The 2018 season is over and the 5s have managed to stave off relegation from the Premier 4th XI division with a timely win in the local derby at Oxted. Gutsy club effort involving many of the club's legends who saw the danger and stepped up to lend a hand. Nice one.

[Steve Cross was again the difference, taking 3-20 alongside Toby Briggs’ 3-11 to dismiss Oxted for 130 before hitting a match-winning 49* with captain-in-waiting Sam Gregson, who hit 44*. However at one point the game was in the balance with the Llamas 49-5 before Grego and Cross put on 84 to win the game five down - Ed]

However, the heat and light emanating from such an affair disguise another important milestone for the team; the Captaincy will now be transferred from Aaron De Mello to Sam Gregson. While the former skipper will still be involved in the side he was keen for the next generation to have an early leadership opportunity.

'A-Dog', in charge for the last two seasons, has been an iconic Captain who brought a warmth and charm (as well as a fair amount of panic) to the team which inspired many a player to give their all. Sir, the club salutes you and all you have given in the name of Llamas. Huge thanks.
Now, we all wait to see what fresh energy and impetus can do for the team. Too early to predict a top four finish next year? Grego will not be alone as all the other Captains and Coaches will lend the benefits of their wisdom and expertise to help him kick start his career in good shape. Welcome aboard Captain!
