Munday and Stevens join the elite 250 Wicket Club

Reigate Priory Cricket Club16 Jun - 18:01

Our two bowling heroes

Saturday’s superb 1st XI league win over Esher had several heroes but two of them were undoubtedly Michael Munday and Richard Stevens.

Michael’s 3 wickets included the key wicket of their Australian overseas player Teague Wylie who was on 116 with Esher on 244 for 3 with potentially another 20 overs to go when Mikey knocked back his off stump.

We had been staring down the barrel of 350 to 400 to chase. Richard had bowled a very tidy 1-35 off 11 overs but came to the party big time when he strode out to bat with 43 needed off just 34 balls with 3 wickets left. A six over extra cover gave us belief and Mr Cool’s 23 runs off 19 balls helped skipper George Ealham get his ton and Priory the winning points. A great win with many regulars missing.

The story here is however really about our two bowling heroes who have joined the elite club of just 5 bowlers in the Club’s league history to take over 250 1st XI wickets.

Mikey reached the milestone on Saturday and Dickie a couple of weeks earlier. They now join Luke Beaven, Will Hodson and the bad boy of cricket, Aussie Brad Oldroyd in this exclusive club.

I think we need a photo montage of the 5 as we have a montage in the dressing room of the 5 batters who have scored over 5000 runs. Only fair the bowlers get equal glory!!
