Today Alan and Pat Whitworth celebrate their diamond (60 years) wedding anniversary

Today our longest serving club members, Alan and Pat Whitworth, celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.

Alan is a past 1st XI and Club captain, our first recorded Chairman, a past President, from 1985 to 1999, and our longest serving Trustee of 44 years. He and Pat are coming up to their 60th year as club members.

Pat hails from Blackpool and Alan from Lincolnshire and their marriage took place at Fylde just outside Blackpool. They were both in the medical profession and met at Barts Hospital where Alan was a junior doctor and Pat a junior sister. Pat had been nursing in New York and was planning on returning after a brief period at Barts but met Alan and the rest, as they say, is history.

Immediately after the wedding they moved to Reigate where Alan started practicing at the Wall House Surgery in Yorke Road. becoming senior partner and one of Reigate’s most well known and respected figures.

His sporting career is equally impressive. He played minor counties cricket for Lincolnshire, playing at all 6 of the major test grounds and also played football at Wembley. His Wembley appearance was in the Varsity match for Cambridge in 1954 when they defeated Oxford 3-2.

Alan/Pat the whole club congratulate you on your diamond wedding, and hope you have a marvellous day with many more to come.

PS. Our club secretary advises me that Alan also delivered Fat Boy Slim into the world!!! As Michael Caine would say "Not a lot of people know that".
