Match report and Surrey selections

A step too far for Priory

Reigate Priory CC. 141 for 2 (net 131) v Burgh Heath CC 156 for 3 (net 141)
Reigate Priory lost by 10 runs

In another closely fought match we lost narrowly to Burgh Heath by 10 runs (walks). Bowling first at the Red Lion, on a good track, we took time to adjust to the slope and a number of our deliveries drifted down the leg side. Costly! There were wickets taken by Joe Joseph and Ian Hawkins. Mention must go to Ian for an excellent caught and bowled and for his impressive fielding performance. At the end of their 15 overs Burgh Heath had accumulated a net score of 141.

In response a measured opening partnership between Cliff Wade and Adrian Wood posted 30 runs, which meant we were just above the required run rate. Although only losing one wicket and batting well in our middle order, we dropped behind the required run rate. Our final pair Joe Joseph and Michael Johns needed to score 34 from the last 3 overs to secure a win. Having scored 12 off the first over the optimism and excitement grew amongst the home supporters. Unfortunately, we lost a wicket on the first ball of the second over (-5), we lost momentum, and finished just short of our target.

Although we lost the team were encouraged by improvements in our fielding and that we only lost 2 wickets whilst batting. We need to continue to work on controlling our bowling line, especially when adapting to the playing conditions.

Our next and final match is at home against Banstead on Thursday 18th September, 10:30 start. Supporters are always welcome.
