Walking Cricket Team at the Oval

Walking Cricket Team at the Oval

Reigate Priory Cricket Club25 Jul - 11:10

An exciting extra for Cricket week

Although only started in May this year, the Walking Cricket Team has had the great honour of playing at the Oval.

The Squad were really looking forward to the Festival, in which we got to play 3 matches during the day. Our first game was against Wimbledon Windmillers and we chose to bat first. Each pair batted for two overs, and in a total of 8 overs we scored a total of 94, conceding just 2 wickets (net score 84).

With each bowler restricted to 2 overs, we took 7 Windmillers wickets, restricting their net total to 33. Priory winning by a confidence boosting 51 runs.

Our Second Match was against the Change Foundation. Again, we batted first, having lost a number of wickets our net score was restricted to 38 from our 8 overs. Although we bowled and fielded with effort and enthusiasm, we struggled to defend the target. The Change Foundation won.

Our final match pitted us against Holmbury St.Mary. For the third time we batted first and in a repeat of the second game, we lost 8 wickets posting a score of 64 (net 24). In the excitement of playing a match, we forgot the basics of walking between the wickets. In reply Holmbury St. Mary scored a total of 84 for 2 (net 74).

As a team we certainly benefitted from playing 3 matches and we will be all the stronger because of the experience. Apart from the results of the games, just playing as a Priory Team at The Oval has to be seen as the biggest win. It was great fun.

We were then treated to a guided tour of the Oval, which rounded off a fantastic day.

We would like to thank Surrey County Cricket Foundation for hosting such an enjoyable and successful event. Our particular thanks go to Kim Price, who leads on Walking Cricket for SCC Foundation.

We play Banstead next and the Oval hosts the England v India Test match.
