Youth Round Up

Reigate Priory Cricket Club23 Jul 2022 - 08:21

By Jim Harmer

With great parental support, the u/10As had their Cup Final on Wednesday eve at Ashtead. Early wickets by Noah Foster and Theo Raja plus a direct hit at one stump by Willem VH had them at 34-5 but some late hitting took them to a round 100 a.o. in 15 overs. Theo, Tharveen and Noah made a great start but when Willem was third out to the same fate as he'd inflicted, and Ashtead spinners turned the screw, no-one could stay with Noah (25 retired) and we finished 90 a.o in the last over. A great season for the team, however, with 2nd place too in their division.

The u/13 girls regional cup final v Slough will be at Hawthorns on Saturday morning and the u/9 girls have finals day at Merstham on Monday morning, following a win on Sunday (Aadhya Bali adding 22 to make 145 runs so far this season and only 3 times out - remembering that her 12 matches are only 6 overs long).

The Trust team continued it's strong progress with a win over Spencer (Jacob McLoughlin 77, Tommy and Alvin 3 wickets each - all these lads playing senior cricket too, Jacob taking 4 wickets in the 1st team on Saturday)

The u/11As breezed through their Cup QF (Luke Foster & Stan Barton retired, Benji Hillsdon 4 for 2 really troubled the Ashtead lower order with yorkers and bouncers). Semi v Horsley & Send at RGS on 30 July, I believe. The u/9Bs have won their division to add to the 9As success. The 9Cs finished 5th and the 9Ds third in their division, so a great all round set for the age group. After two tight games, the u/8 Bs and As stayed top and second with a game to go.

Coming up also are: u/13A Semi Friday 22/7 at Red Lion v Weybridge and u/12As Semi at Ashtead on 7 August. And after a tough season with injuries to vital players, they have battled on to a Plate Semi v Cranleigh - the boys and managers deserve some success!
