It was the SJCC finals day on Bank Holiday Monday and our involvement was in the u/15 Plate final. We are delighted to report that our lads have won, beating Chertsey by 7 wickets (reports James Stringer). 50 teams entered the competition and we were very pleased to come out on top at Valley End CC. Max Thomas was named Man of the Match, beating off stiff competition from James Brewis. We had restricted Chertsey to 94 all out from 99 balls in this 100 ball format, wickets shared and 3 run outs, with Jack Burke and James both having a good economy of 8 runs off their 20 balls. Batters also restricted to 20 balls, Sam Bell and Max retired with 20 and 23 but there was good support down the order as we hit the target after 86 balls. Well done everyone who played in the fixtures to the final and great to end the season on a high note.
As well as bringing home their trophy, they also collected our other shields won earlier in the season, so we can remember the u/8B Tier 1 team, the u/9A hardball and B Tier 2 teams and the u/13B Tier 3 - all division winners.
We like to highlight young players making a mark at senior level and we reported Ned Littlemore returning from a nasty injury recently to take 6 wickets for 2 runs. He proved his all round skills this week with 101* against Banstead 5s. Jack, Harrison Lewis, Seb Wilson and Will Hodgson all took 3 wickets at senior level, with Will Cooper taking 4. Seth McDowall hit a 50 for the 2nds and Luca Tomlin, running out of time in the VIkings, made 49*. Many thanks to James Wilson, the VIkings skipper, for giving a number of lads a chance to play at senior level for the first time.
