Report by Dick Belcher

The 2nd T20 of the day saw the MCC men’s team take on the Llama men who fielded a mixture of 1st and 2nd teamers.

Priory put the MCC into bat and Weybridge’s Odge Davey (13) and Guildford’s Oli Soames (45 no) put on 62 when Richie Oliver took the 1st of his 3 catches to dismiss Davey from the bowling of Will Hodgson. Will got his 2nd wicket (2.3-0-23-2) with the score at 86-2 when he had Hector Hardman (9) caught by Sam Hall before Will was taken out of the attack after bowling 2 beamers.

The 3rd wicket fell with the score on 93 when Ben Shoare had Oli Soames lbw for 63 (52 in boundaries). Ben (4-0-17-2) then dismissed ex England and current Weybridge player Nick Compton (13) aided by an outstanding catch from Richie Oliver as the 4th MCC wicket fell with the score now on 106. Priory’s own David Gent (1) was bowled by Richie Oliver for 108-5. Richie’s 3rd catch and 2nd wicket (3.3-0-10-2) came with a lightning caught and bowled to dismiss Alex MacQueen (North Middlesex CC) for 7 as the MCC innings stuttered at 120 for 6.

Four MCC wickets then fell with the score on 131as firstly Matt Hutcheon (4-0-33-1) had East Molesey’s Thomas Phillippe (9) caught by Ben Shoare before Michael Mundy produced his usual magic (3.5-0-21-3) to bowl East Molesey’s Andrew Westphal (8), then bamboozling S Cooper (0) to be stumped by Jordan Bunyan and finally bowling ex Llama and MCC Captain for the day Alex Mendis for a duck as the MCC were all out for 131 after 19.5 overs with Ollie Rayner (ex Sussex, Middlesex and Kent) the not out batsman.
The target was 131 but for the 3rd time this season the Llamas were to be undone by the bowling of East Molesey’s Andrew Westphal. The 1st time he took 6-35 playing against our 2nd team, then returning to his usual 1st team slot he took 5-34 against our 1st team. Today was to prove no different as in his 2 overs he took 4 wickets for 8 runs getting Sam Hall (5), Seth McDowall (0), Advaith Bali (1) and Jordan Bunyan (2). Andrew has a wonderfully smooth bowling action which looks effortless but is nonetheless very efficient; particularly against us !

2 more wickets fell as Ollie Rayner (3-0-16-2) caught and bowled top scorer Rory Haughton (33) and had opener Matt Hutcheon (12) lbw as the Llamas limped to 59-6. Ali Raja (3) was caught off the bowling of ex Llama Alex Mendis (1-0-6-1) for 78-7. Ben Shoare (1) was run out for 80-8 and then Genty (1-0-4-1) bowled Will Hodgson (4) for 89-9 as Will Brewis (0 no) joined Captain Richie Oliver before Richie was bowled for 15 as the Llamas were all out for 89 after 16.2 overs to see a two-nil away win to the MCC.
