The Llamas concluded their pre-season programme with a close-fought win in a 50-over fixture against a strong team from Sandwich Town.
With the ground looking a picture and on a good pitch, the Llamas batted first and were soon in some trouble at 18/3 as the first three batsmen were all bowled (somewhat bizarrely) failing to offer a shot.
The previous week at Preston Nomads, newcomer Ed Fluck had been dismissed first ball, but now demonstrated his skill and temperament with a hard-hitting century. In a match-winning partnership, Fluck (108) and Andy Delmont (51) combined to add 134 for the 4th wicket.
Late contributions from Angus Dahl (26) and Richard Stevens (30) saw the Llamas reach a competitive 259/7.
Sandwich made a fast start in response and at the 40 over mark were favourites needing 52 to win with 5 wickets in hand. However tight bowling and good fielding saw the Llamas win by 26 runs as Sandwich were bowled out for 236.
Debutant Robin Lines the standout contributor with the ball, taking 5/34 from 9.4 overs of accurate seam bowling.
Thanks to Sandwich Town for a competitive fixture and all involved at Llamaland in getting the ground in excellent condition ready for the new season - in particular Brickers for preparing an excellent pitch for the first home fixture of the year.
