PRIORY GO TOP!

PRIORY GO TOP!

Reigate Priory Cricket Club18 Jun - 17:58

Epic performance from the boys

A brilliant performance from the Llamas over at Esher and a fantastic run chase has put Priory top of the Prem a third of the way through the season! Priory won the toss on a sunny day and put Esher into bat. Esher started positively adding 34 in the first 8 overs; then Fraser Sheat bowled Northants Justin Broad for 19, after his long trip back from Durham the night before when he'd been playing T20 for Northants that Friday evening (taking 2-22 and scoring 30!).

An inspirational change from skipper George Ealham then saw Caleb Whitefoord take 2 wickets in one over with Smit caught for 8, and Meschede bowled first ball leaving Esher 45-3. However, Esher skipper Teague Wyllie was then joined at the crease by David Brent, and they took Esher to 151 for 3 at lunch.

Esher then looked to accelerate, with Wyllie bringing up his hundred in 128 balls and Esher were looking strong. Munday broke the partnership of 199 when he bowled Teague Wyllie for 116; Dick Stevens got rid of David Brent for 90 and this inspired Reigate as Esher lost their last 7 wickets for just 59 runs in the 60th over, leaving Reigate needing 304 to win in 61 overs.

Ollie Sykes and Seth McDowall opened up cautiously with 3 maidens, before the acceleration came, with Surrey's Ollie Sykes on the attack. At tea, Reigate were 74-0 off 17 overs with Sykes on 58 and McDowall 14. Soon they brough up the 100 partnership and Sykes was out for 74, leaving Priory 109-1.

Skipper George Ealham came to the crease and added 49 with McDowall, who then fell for an excellent 47, leaving Reigate 158-2. Sheat and Ealham started to play positively and Ealham's 50 came off just 41 balls. George and Fraser added 50 runs in 65 balls before a freak run out with Ealham smashing the ball back at the bowler who finger tipped it on to the stumps to run out Sheat for 34, leaving Reigate 256-4... soon to be 261-7 after a mini-collapse and a clutch of run outs.

George Ealham

Cometh the hour... cometh Richard Stevens... who with Ealham put on an unbeaten stand of 43, including a crucial 6 over extra cover and 4 through third man in consecutive balls when Priory still needed 34 off the last 3 overs. Ealham's 100 came off 107 balls in the last over and with 6 needed off 3 balls, a misfield produced a boundary, and the next ball, Ealham hit the winning runs to leave Priory the victors with 1 ball to spare - and now top of the league!

Next up are Croydon in the T20 Quarter Finals at the Priory this Thursday at 6pm; and on Saturday, the visitors are Wimbledon at 11am in the 120 over format.
