On a sunny day in southeast London, Reigate Priory were looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat against Sutton, and to get their season back on track. Newly promoted Dulwich won the toss and chose to bat first, but Fraser Sheat and Richard Stevens bowled tightly at the start and removed both openers cheaply. Then a critical moment as Dulwich's overseas star wicket keeper batsman, K S Bharat – Indian Test Player as recently as February 2024 against England, who scored 134 in last week's opening for win for Dulwich over Esher – was run out by a piece of brilliant fielding by Priory skipper George Ealham. The 4th wicket pair rebuilt and put on 66 before Tommy Bates dismissed Ollie Steele for 50 of 91 balls. Then Jenkins and Seecharan put on 53 before Seecharan fell for 74 of 72 balls. Reigate continued to take wickets and Dulwich finished on 243 for 8 off 50 overs. Standout bowlers were Richard Stevens with 3-56 off his 10 overs and Fraser Sheat with 2-39.
After tea, Priory's openers, former skipper Richie Oliver and Luke Haughton went after the target in a positive manner and at 10 overs had raced to 70 for 0. Perhaps surprisingly at that stage, Haughton was taking the lead, and Priory continued the momentum as both Oliver and Haughton reached their half centuries in double quick time - Oliver off 49 balls and Haughton off just 45 balls. Both batsmen continued to play in positive fashion, and at drinks at the halfway 25 overs mark, Reigate had reached 190 without loss and a pretty special victory was looking on the cards. Both batsmen were looking to score their first centuries of the season and to seal the win without any loss of wickets – and this they did, with real style, taking just 31 overs to knock off the runs, ending on a mammoth 245-0. Luke Haughton scored his hundred off 90 balls and Richie Oliver his hundred in 83 balls. Richie hit the winning runs to give the Llamas a ten-wicket win, as both batsmen finished on 113 not out.
This should very much kick start the Priory's season with tougher matches to come – starting this week with local rivals Ashtead the visitors to Park Lane.
