East Molesey came out victorious in the top of the table clash with Reigate

East Molesey came out victorious in the top of the table clash with Reigate at Park Lane on Saturday to hand themselves the initiative in the race for the 2019 Surrey Championship title.

Once the rain subsided play was able to get underway at 14:15, giving East Molesey a maximum of 44 overs to bat after losing the toss.
Will Hodson and Luke Beaven took centre stage in the early exchanges, reducing the Moles to 48-8 and surely no way back into the game.
However as the drizzle returned, some excellent rearguard action from Matthew Tigg (44) supported by Jake Kings (10) and Jonathan Fawcett (16) saw the Moles scrape to 124ao.

Beaven finishing with impressive figures of 7-56 from 20 overs and Hodson 2-39 from 16 overs. The only other bowler used was Michael Munday who chipped in with 1-21.

Reigate had a minimum of 39 overs to get the runs and lost Bradley Scriven (14) early. Sam Hall (16) and in-form Andy Delmont (25) then looked untroubled to take the score past 50. 3 wickets then fell for 3 runs with Hall, Delmont and Michael Burgess all back in the sheds. Jake Lehmann (29) and Angus Dahl (14) steadied the ship for the Llamas until the latter held out in the deep.

At 79-5 the game appeared to be opening up again for the Moles, but Lehmann and Rory Haughton (10) came together for a solid 31 run partnership to ease any potential Reigate nerves.

However, there was to be yet another twist in this game, with the introduction of the unlikely batting hero Tigg into the attack.

Haughton got a bit of bad luck and from 110-5, the Llamas fell in a heap to be bowled out for 120, agonisingly 4 runs short of the target.
Tigg’s 4 overs returning figures of 3-9 to complete a day out to remember.

A remarkable game of cricket that ebbed and flowed throughout.

The Moles now go from the ‘hunter’ to the ‘hunted’ with 6 games to go and a 3 point cushion on Reigate.
