Off the back of defeat last week, Irving, McInley and Lister approached Saturday's home game vs Malden in an existential mood.
"What is luck?" They posed during the warm up.
"A myth!" Tommy replied.
"Something that you create from hard work and dedication!" Replied Swerve.
"The constant unpredictable collision of atoms that bring about chance outcomes, which over a lifetime, become negligible." McInley quipped.
So, different approaches, for different minds.
After The Prawn arrived just seconds before the start of the game, Fraser won the toss and stuck us in. Despite losing Skip for a decent 36, and Tommy by way of a predictably unpredictable LBW decision, Smudge and Tye looked particularly comfortable at the crease for their 81 and 61 respectively. However, what was disappointing was the way Tye gave his wicket away, chipped to mid on when going so well. You sometimes have to wonder if there really is anything between those two ears of his.
After a little collapse, Carlos
Brathwaite (Harry McInley), on debut for the llamas hit a couple of bombs at the end to get the score up to 251 (a score that looked some way off at the half way point).
After some of Jene’s finest Tuna Mayo sandwiches (inclusive of a mere squabble over the lack of Brie and grape) Priory took the field.
Harry McInley (pictured) produced a wonderful spell of 10 overs from the Blue Anchor end, which left him with figures of 10 overs, 2 maidens, 3 wickets and 27 runs. I suspect the Carlos Brathwaite lookalike would have felt hard done by that he didn’t get many more.
Toby Briggs, playing in his first 2nd team
game of the season, hit his straps straight away with a wicket of Malden old boy Spencer Stevens and with a good come back second spell from Donovan the seamers had put Priory in a very strong position.
Spin Twins Wigley (4 for 20) and Iriving (2 for 12 don’t know how) finished off the tail of
Malden, finally bowling them out for 115. Priory celebrated with the injured Hirst who was sporting a suitably burnt head and frothed mind.
Onto the French away next Saturday!
