An abject batting display resulted in a loss against bottom of the table East Molesey

Jordan Bunyan writes...
A glorious day at Park Lane started with the skip winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Toby Briggs, one of the two changes to the team from last week, was handed the new ball with Matt Hutcheon (12 overs 2-31). Arguably a perfect start for the llamas, saw East Molesey’s top 5 batsmen all scoring less 20 with Briggs picking up three of them. Any considerable comeback was controlled by spinners Chris Wigley (9 overs 2-29) and Will Irving (7 overs 1-36), alongside the deceptive pace of Steven Hirst (9 overs 0-24). The opening bowlers eventually returned to clean up the tail and send the teams to tea. It seemed that last week’s 1st innings performance in the field, that can only be described as embarrassing, was well and truly left at the ground. A brilliant reaction from the 2s managed to restrict East Molesey to a total of 161 all out from exactly 50 overs. A fantastic stand out performance from Toby Briggs with the ball, proved that his class is permanent, but his chat is temporary at best… His figures ended 13-1-40-5.

The Llamas’ confidence was bruised quite early in to the 2nd innings with some unlucky dismissals, coupled with some 50/50 decisions which were falling in favour of East Molesey. Rory Haughton (38) was standing strong and showing signs of rebuilding, with the help of Irving (22). However, they eventually both fell to the leg spinner. Needing 80 runs with 5 wickets in hand, victory was still very much in the sights, but the 2s couldn’t get the better of the leggy who picked up six wickets for just 29 runs. A disappointing second half meant a final score of 115 all out and a loss for the Llamas.

Despite the result, a very positive bowling and fielding performance for the 2s who are still well within top of the table with plenty left to play for. Next up is Valley End away.
