Report by Dick Belcher

The Llamas (5th) took on Dulwich (7th) at St Albans Road as the 3rd XI looked to repeat their win from the corresponding fixture from last season when Jordan Bunyan got 106 runs and took 2-11; and it was hopefully a good sign to have Jordan return to the Llama ranks for today’s fixture.
Dulwich put Reigate into bat and within the 1st hour they had reduced Reigate to 55-5 off 17 overs. Reigate lost skipper Simon Brewis who feathered a catch to keeper Dan Damley-Jones off the bowling of Matt Quaife (9-1) before Jordan (1) played on to Jeremy Jones (18-2). Michael Ramsden having hit 24 (five 4’s) also fell caught behind off Matt Quaife (12-2-42-2) for 30-3. Will Brewis (7) was caught by Ed Luker at point off Jeremy Jones (32-4), followed by Sam Clark (8) caught at cover by Sam Fookes also off Jeremy Jones (12-3-44-3) for 55-5 after 17 overs.
A bowling change brought an immediate wicket as Henry Ellinger-Gane caught and bowled Srikanth Vuppala (39) and the Llamas were 90-6 at drinks in the 25th over. The Llama innings stalled in the 90’s losing Ollie Harris (9) caught at short leg by Ben Lester off Harry Ellinger-Gane for 93-7 and the Llamas didn’t reach 100 until the 34th over.
Looking a long way short of any kind of defendable total the Llama tail began to wag as George McLoughlin and Steve Cross put on 44 when George (8) was caught by Andrew Bailey at the 2nd attempt off Henry Ellinger-Gane’s bowling; however the Llama recovery was underway at 137-8.
All-rounder Callum Gurbutt joined Crossy and the tail continued to wag with Crossy reaching 37 before he was bowled by Henry Ellinger-Gane (12-4-43-4) and after being 93-7 the Llamas were now 152-9. The Llamas were far from finished as all-rounder and captain of the Llamas Surrey Slam team Callum Gurbutt, moved into Surrey Slam mode and smashed 43no (mainly in 6’s & 4’s) before losing partner Ollie Simms (9) who was bowled by Rehan Malik (7.3-2-24-1) and the Llama innings finished on 194 all out halfway through the 48th over. An excellent fight-back with over 100 runs coming from the last 3 wickets.
A prolonged tea break (apparently the 1st team and their East Molesey opponents; who by the way fielded 5 of the team that the 2’s defeated in their title decider last season, were eating all our pies) pushed the potential finishing time back to 7.20 with Dulwich having a minimum of 51 overs to get 195.
Dulwich lost opener Dan Damley-Jones (0) bowled by George McLoughlin (5-1) and 3 overs later with the score still on 5 lost their 2nd wicket when Ben Lester (5) was caught by Steve Cross at 2nd slip off all-rounder Callum Gurbutt (10-6-11-1).
After 13 overs Dulwich had been restricted to just 15 runs by some accurate bowling from Callum (7-5-4-1) and George with the Dulwich batsmen keen to know when George would finish his (age restricted U15) 6 over spell (6-1-11-1).
Srikanth Vuppala replaced George and despite being more expensive nonetheless got the 3rd wicket (52-3) getting Ed Luker (15) caught by Will Brewis diving forward at point. Next over (23rd) another wicket as Steve Cross, in his 2nd over, had Jack Beadsworth (36) out playing on (56-4). A leaping Ollie Harris’s one handed catch dismissed Andrew Bailey (8) for Sri’s 2nd wicket (11-4-42-2) and 72-5 in the 30th over. Sri might have got a 3rd wicket when an lbw shout had to be turned down as Sri had kicked the wicket down at the bowler’s end (Umpire error should have been a no-ball)
Dulwich captain Dan Edwards (18), having played and missed a few times, finally got an edge to Crossy for Rambo to take the catch behind for 82-6. Crossy (10-1-37-4) than had 2 lbw’s, Sammy Fookes (9) for 99-7 and in the same over (37th) had Henry Ellinger-Gane (0) lbw for 99-8.
Plenty of time left in the game as the Dulwich tail had a little wag of its own as Ollie Simms joined the attack (6-1-24-0) before the returning George McLoughlin had Matt Quaife (31) caught by Will Brewis and Dulwich were 132-9. It was George McLoughlin who rounded off an excellent bowling display (9.4-2-17-3) by finishing the Dulwich innings on 133 when he got Rehan Malik (6) to sky one into the safe hands of Ollie Simms to give the Llamas the 24 points to take them up one place to 4th.
