Thanks to the forward thinking and flexibility of the East Molesey 3s skipper we managed a 20 over game which finished in the pouring rain last Saturday. A great 11 run win could have been more comfortable if Shayne hadn’t been bowling with a bar of soap in the last over.
EM won the toss and after a lot of umming and ahhhing the skipper decided to have a bowl - I would have done the same to be fair.
An excellent and varied opening partnership between the inform Ireland and destructive Sri (his 6 onto the pavilion was the highlight) laid the foundation for a score of 150 off the full 20 overs. Ant scored a very impressive and fluid 54 and with 20s from Sri and Will Dahl and some scampering and good hitting from Oli Harris (18no) we were happy with our score but felt it could have been a little higher.
After a quick turnaround the EM innings began with both openers batting confidently in a 65 run opening partnership. Sri then magicked a wicket caught by Brewis but that brought in number 3 who proceeded to tuck into our bowlers for a quick fire 34 whilst number 2 compiled an impressive 39. Shayne then started his spell and bowled the opener quickly following it up with another wicket. Brickers got the danger man and Shayne got another and despite some last over runs we saw out the game for an 11 run win and 20 points to sit top of the table albeit we were the only completed game and yes it is early days!
Lots of positives including; some good batting from Ant, Sri, Will D and Oli H; some tight, controlled bowling from Shayne (3-19), Brickers (1-19) and Callum (new nickname ‘Grubber’); a sharp stumping from Will D; and some good fielding. But definitely things to work on in all the disciplines.
On the whole a great win and most importantly a good team performance with everyone contributing. We now look forward to welcoming Esher to SAR on Saturday for our 1st 40 over match of the season.
