Depleted 5s suffer heavy defeat

Sunbury are riding high in 3rd place in the Surrey Championship 4th Premier Division and therefore Priory would need to perform at their best to secure a much needed win.

The match was an 11.30am start at the Geoff Kaye Memorial Ground, Sunbury.
We won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision to bat was a pragmatic one, as we only had 7 players in attendance at 11.30. Aaron arrived 10 minutes after the start of the game as he had been delayed, waiting for equipment, at the Club. We now had 9 players!

Brijesh Patel and Sam Gregson opened the batting. They built a good partnership taking the total past 50 before Sam was bowled for 31 runs. Brijesh suffered the same fate as Sam and was back in the Pavilion for 30. Priory were 60 for 2. Manish Chauhan was unfortunate to be given out LBW for 8. Gaurav Bansal was bowled for 3. Aaron De Mello and Andy Snow were both quickly out, without troubling the scorer. Simon Morris made 18 not out, assisted by some generous leg side bowling. Jason Irwin was caught behind for 0, whilst Mark Waine was last man out for 4.

The Sunbury batsman began strongly and quickly raced to the target. Their only hiccup was the fall of Ranjit Gopi (69), lbw to the bowling of Simon. Sunbury reached their target from 13.5 overs.

Q. What does a good season look like for you?
"Bit of a tough one as I believe everyone knows how much I want to win and my feeling on selection issues."

To their credit the Priory team played with spirit, determination and commitment. We wanted to win, but it is tougher when you only have 9 players. Next week we are away to league leaders Dulwich.
