Cavs chase leather as Wigley returns with a vengeance

Well this this was a thrashing. Perennial rivals South Nutfield crushed us. Weirdly, the only time we were in control of the game was when we had 9 players on the field in the first 10 overs. At one point we had only 8 players on the field as Simon Brewis went off to send an emergency text to other colt dads. When the cavalry did arrive, in the shape of the very late Rambo and very keen u-13 Jonny Long, it did not seem to actually help us. The South Nutfield batsmen just opened up their shoulders and battered the ball everywhere. Four of them scored 50s, with Chris Wigley inevitably scoring the quickest, off just 29 balls. We were short of regular bowlers and they were not helped by simple catches going down. It was carnage.
The Cavs may not have had many bowlers but they did have a good batting side out. But with such a large total to chase and more accurate bowling to face, they sputtered out fairly quickly. Plenty got starts but nobody passed twenty and the very impressive colt Kyle Campbell struck four times with his scudding, late inswing to finish the Cavs off for a measly 127. Ah well, we cant win them all. But it would be nice not to lose by 150 runs again.
PS. The Cavs were back to being great again on the Wednesday night, when we won a one-off 20/20 match at Salfords. A far too strong Cav side thrashed our genial hosts, chasing down 102 with 9 overs to spare. Morgs spoiling the chase by slapping a fast 48*. It was a nice evening out, but disappointingly one-sided. Probably how South Nutfield felt on the Sunday.
