On a blazing hot day with yellow grass resplendent and a healthy crowd trying to ignore Spain vs Russia, the Cavs played their annual fixture against Mogador. Rambo was on time which was a big positive, especially as he was captain for the day.
Captain Rambo won the toss and decided to have a bat against the many familiar faces of Mogador who included one fielder in shin pads whereas a chest guard would have been more appropriate thanks to the undulating outfield.
The Cavs’ opening partnership of 120 between Will Timmons & Simon Brewis gave them an excellent start, Will getting out for 32 caught off a full toss after some variations from the 1st change bowler. Brewis went on to make 104 before going wandering and getting stumped and nearly falling over.
Manoj was busy, running everything and launching a 6 onto the bowling green, then Morgs looked imperious for a quick fire 22. A collapse then followed with Captain Rambo run out, Raj with a good 26 and another not out for Brickers. The total was 257. One thing to note was the 5 stumpings by the lighting quick Ash.
Both teams then enjoyed an extended tea break as Russia beat Spain on penalties – the result was never in doubt with Putin sitting in Moscow’s VAR room.
For Mogador’s innings Manoj was the on-field captain and no-one had seen him run around as much ever before – he was running in between overs, running after the ball and running for the sake of running.
Mogador started brightly as the Cavs’ bowlers seemed to be bowling on a junior wicket which explained the high number of full tosses. Ash was scoring in 4s whilst Peter scored in singles/dots at the blistering pace of a run an over… Ash batted very nicely and powerfully for his 94 before getting out to an incredibly athletic low one-handed catch by keeper Nat off the bowling of the ever reliable Brickers.
Wickets then fell at regular intervals often - in the 1st over following a bowling change (well done Captain Manoj). Fish scored a breezy 41 and on field captain Manoj was forced to bring himself on to take 2 wickets and he kept his nerve benefitting from Morgs’ expert advice.
Finally Morgs got his wish and got hold of the ball, taking 4-10 and a spiralling catch & the game was done, the Cavs winning by 44 runs.

The Rambo-Manoj captaincy partnership worked like a dream, complementing each other despite some field placement tensions.
