After the excitement of the Maori Oxshott tie, this game was real dud. This was despite the Cavs having their largest ever crowd, well, if you can count people walking by on their way to and from the fair which was sharing the village green as a crowd.
Sadly, the Cavs did not field or bat well enough to challenge a Thames Ditton side which were weaker than usual (mainly due to the absence of the guy who 150 against us previously – I still have nightmares). The pitch was a tricky one and though the Cavs did bowl the oppo out, their total of 189 was probably 40 runs too high for conditions. Jiva Delambert had the best figures with 3 for 45 and Sumair Qasim was very economical but they were not backed up by their fielders. Only the two colts Ned Littlemore and Jack Sadler shone, Jack in particular had a good game, taking three catches, a wicket and a stunning run out.
The Cavs found batting hard in reply. The skipper’s attempt to bat long, resulting in a very slow 19 which got the Cavs precisely nowhere. Brijesh Bharatiya with 26 and Sumair with 24 both briefly fought back, but the Cavs collapsed form 61 for 3 to 99 all out, courtesy of a remarkable 6 for 9 from O. Park. A bowling display which brought so much amusement from his team-mates, that you know you have batted badly.
