Match report by Dick Belcher

With an array of players with senior appearances in the 1’s & 2’s, the Trust team travelled to Leatherhead, who in turn included 5 players from their 1st eleven from the previous day.

Leatherhead won the toss and chose to bat and Priory made an early breakthrough when Bertie Morgan (4-1-13-1) bowled N Hunter (1) to have the host’s 5-1 after 2 overs.

S Price and S Slaney then put a stand of 123 with S Slaney hitting 87 of the partnership. Field placings made little impact when he was belting 6’s way beyond the boundary but he was eventually out for 91 from just 56 balls with 70 coming in boundaries, when Seth McDowall had him lbw in the 22rd over.

Seth then got his 2nd wicket when M Cannon (1) was caught at mid wicket by Morgan Barnes and 2 balls later got his 3rd wicket bowling A Garimella (0) to have Leatherhead 132-4 in the 24th over. Ben Ware was bowling spin and in his 1st over (the 28th) with the score on 149 Ben dismissed T Baldwin (12) with the help of a Seth McDowall catch as Leatherhead lost their 5th wicket.

Seth was dominating the batters and got his 4th wicket clean bowling opposition Captain A Waterman (5) and then got his 5th (8-0-36-5) with the help of a catch by Josh Berkshire dismissing D Cannon (4) and Leatherhead were 171-7 in the 33rd over.

Meanwhile the number 3 bat S Price was approaching his 50 but was frustrated by the accuracy of Josh Berkshire. Ben Ware then had J Townshend (1) caught in the deep by Fin Willsher for 177-8 and got his 3rd wicket (6.1-0-27-3) when Jack Sadler caught L Hunter (5) as the 9th wicket fell with the score now 189.

S Price finally fell for 55 from 111 balls with just 4 boundaries when he was run out from the 1st ball of the last (40th) over by Jonathan Wylie as Leatherhead were all out for 201.

Llama opener Morgan Barnes set the tone of the reply with 4 from the 1st ball and with fellow opener Fin Willsher they raced to 62 in just the 7th over when the 1st wicket fell when Fin (13) was bowled by L Hunter (7-0-42-2) who repeated the feat 2 balls later when he bowled Jack Sadler and the Llamas were 62-2.

Morgan Barnes raced on in an innings peppered with boundaries (3 sixes and 8 fours) but in the 11th over then lost his partner Sam Bell (14) who was run out as the Llamas lost their 3th wicket and were now 95-3. which shortly after became 99-4 as Morgan was out for 58 from 35 deliveries when he was caught by A Huseyin off A Garimella’s bowling (8-0-56-1). Seth McDowall was then lbw to S Slaney (4-0-27-1) and the Llama reply wobbled at 99-5 in the 12th over, still well ahead of the run rate but already halfway through the wickets.

Tommy Bates joined Advaith Bali and by the 22nd over the pair had passed their 50 partnership and taken the score to 157 when Tommy (27) was the 6th wicket to fall when he was caught by A Garimella bowled A Huseyin.

Advaith was joined by Ben Ware and they took the Llamas towards the 202 target but with the score on 198 with Advaith approaching a deserved 50 (following his ton for the 2’s on Saturday) he was dismissed when he was stumped by T Baldwin for 48 for A Huseyin 2nd wicket (7.4-0-35-2).

No nerves on show, other than a few supporters, as Bertie Morgan arrived at the wicket and needed just one ball to score the 4 that took the Llamas to victory.
