Lady Lamas v Weybridge

Lady Lamas v Weybridge

Reigate Priory Cricket Club9 Jul - 14:30

Elite T20 Table Toppers

The Lady Llamas were again treated to quality away conditions at St George's College Weybridge with a fast pitch but "tricky overhead conditions" as thunder clouds gathered. Having lost the toss and been invited to bat the Llamas started brightly and with intent progressing to 53 off the first 8 overs for the loss of Kirsty (direct hit run out) to an exceptional piece of fielding.

Her opening partner Rosie Foster looked in fine form with 41 off 30 balls and all seemed well. However Weybridge fielding was outstanding, conditions favourable and a high quality spell of spin bowling from Weybridge's Libby Thabrew was waiting. Rosie, Eleanor Clark and Millie Hetherington all fell quickly to the spin and suddenly we were 4 for 60 and 120 felt an excellent score!

The Llamas struggled to build another meaningful partnership and finished all out 107 which you felt was below par however with a "monsoon" hitting the ground during the break and the pitch conditions suggesting we were not totally "dead".

In the field the Lady Llamas showed what the 2025 version is all about. There was athleticism, energy, skill, tactical ability, good old fashioned team work and fun in abundance awaiting the Weybridge batters. The powerplay was tense with some fine pace bowling from Lucy and Sophie being met with some "craft" from the opposition openers.

A Millie Hetherington run out however completed the powerplay and broke the partnership opening the door for the Llamas. As with the Llamas batting the introduction of spin "broke the game open", Lily Foster taking 2 wickets in an over to leave the home side at 3 for 39 after 9 overs and facing a climbing run rate required and having lost their fancied top order batting.

The game remained tense, however exceptional bowling changes, good field settings and outstanding fielding created pressure that was ultimately too much for the Weybridge girls. Lily finished her 4 overs with 3 wickets for 20 runs and Eleanor Clark also claimed 3 wickets. The story of this game however was in the detail: Sophie 4 overs for 8 runs including a wicket, Lucy 3 overs for 8 runs (and tactically lead her team brilliantly), Millie Hetherington 1 wicket with a "wicked" short ball, but crucially 2 runs outs and an exceptional catch at cover to finish the contest.

Further catches were held by; Evie, Esmae, Lauren and Rosie with a catch and tidy as usual behind the stumps saw Weybridge all out for 82 incredibly 25 runs short, leaving the Llamas incredibly satisfied I would imagine with not just the team performance but having reversed a nasty recent defeat by the same opposition.

The Ladies remain undefeated on top of the T20 table with Richmond.
