Godalming away 9.6.19
James C lost the toss & we were put into bat on a soft wicket with small boundaries
Within 3 overs we were 9-3 with Harrison, Jonny & Sean (on his return) back in the hutch & we were wobbling
Conor & Will B then dug in, C taking some blows but refusing to flinch (he did hop a bit though) & Will calm & they produced a fantastic partnership of 100+ before Conor was bowled for a gritty 24
Will & Arnav came together & Arnav made a very good 21
Will made an excellent 89, hard hitting & patient but eventually fell to a cunning leg spinner the size of Will’s bat who also accounted for Will G & Arnav
Jack hit an entertaining 19 before Tristan walked all over his own stumps trying to hit the ball onto the A3
The innings ended on an excellent 184-9, a superb recovery after a shaky start
Godalming made a positive start to their response dispatching anything short
James C was steady as always, Will G bowled an excellent line & length getting 2-9 off his 4 overs then Tristan stole the show with 4-8 off 5.2, bowling an excellent length
Wickets also for James, Will B & Charlie & good to see Sean bowling again
3 catches for Jack behind the stumps plus catches for others & a sharp run out from Will B & Jack
140 all out and a 44 run victory
The team are now 4 from 4 so the 100% start continues. For the stattos amongst you, in the 4 matches we have played we have scored 746 runs at an average of 186.5 per game which seems a lot! Also, we have bowled 2 teams out & taken 8 wickets in each of the other 2 games.
The boys are very supportive of each other, are enjoying each other’s success & are getting better & better all the time.
However, we were too sloppy & too relaxed at times particularly after drinks (it looked like squash…) & we need to be more ruthless particularly in the big games coming up starting with Trinity away next week 1pm start.
Thanks as always to the parent helpers & support in particular the 2 x Richards for umpiring, Mark & Steve for scoring & their entertaining & informative WhatsApp updates which included vital BBQ information.
