The Senior Llama Ladies couldn't quite repeat the success of the U14s, as they lost by 2 runs to Ashford

Ashford lost the toss and were put into bat. From the first ball, Ashford were putting pressure on Reigate Priory, running quick singles before Reigate’s first breakthrough on the last ball of the first over. Sophie assisted by Amy managed to take a team catch to put Ashford on 209 after the first over. Ashford’s second over was slightly stronger than the first with a big 6 hit hard back past the bowler, they finished on a total score of 222 from their first pair.

Ashford second pairing needed to continue building on the runs even with the Sharon’s named catch of the tournament from Sophie Pout (video on Twitter) Pressure was on and errors in the field by the group leaders were starting to creep in… tension was building. With their second pair finishing on 253, Reigate were in for a big run chase.

With Ashford final pair coming into the hall, they were currently on 253. The second to last over went for 21 putting Ashford on a total of 274. The final over went for just 11 runs with four dots coming when Reigate needed it the most.

Ashford finish their innings on a big total of 285!

In response, Reigate Priory went with the same order, and put in Alice & Vicki to start the chase! After the first over the game was ON! Reigate finish their first over on 221 after running all eight deliveries, finish only 1 run behind Ashford’s first pair’s total, with an over to go. The second over was run slightly less due to some consistent bowling, meaning that Reigate finish on a total of 233 from their first pair.

Reigate going into their second pairing are 10 runs ahead. Reigate’s second pair were slow off the mark but soon got some runs back, and were unlucky to fall short with a great throw in to get a run out off the second to last ball of the 4th over. Reigate are now 250 after 4, putting them three behind with only one pair left.

So with 36 needed, could Reigate’s final pairing get them back on top, or would Ashford cause an upset?

Sophie and Amy got off to a good start, running quick singles between the wickets and brought their team back to a total of 264 with one over to go.

Final Over – Reigate needed 22 to win, Ashford turn to their trusted bowler of Jenny?
With 22 to win, the final over went as follows!
Ball 1 = 2 runs
Ball 2 = wide (2 runs)
Ball 3 = DOT
Ball 4 = 2 run
With four balls to go Reigate now need 16 from 4
Ball 5 = 2 runs
14 needed off 3 balls
Ball 6 = DOT (Great fielding from Lizzie to prevent the boundary 4)
Ball 7 = SIX!

Final ball Reigate need 8 – a wide would make life very interesting…..?
Ball 8 = Sophie smashes a second SIX back to back

With the final ball, the Ladies SMASH IT Indoor Final finishes as,

Ashford finish on a total of 285, with Reigate falling two runs short finishing on 284…

A great end to a great pre Christmas competition!
