Priory legend and Vice-President Zubin Bharucha is the man behind Ben Stokes being signed up by the Rajasthan Royals for this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Zubin played for 10 years or more at Reigate and is the club’s leading league run scorer of all time. He remains a regular visitor to the club whenever in England. He is in charge of cricket at the Royals and has also appointed another Priory legend, Sairaj Bahutule, onto their coaching staff. As well as signing up Stokes their squad includes Jos Buttler and Steve Smith, the Australian captain. If that wasn’t enough they even have Shane Warne back with them as club mentor.

Reigate cricketers were responsible over 200 years ago for the standardisation of the width of the cricket bat and the introduction of wides to the game and clearly the club’s influence continues to be global.
