After winning the toss in bowler friendly conditions the Normandy seamers were quick to hit their straps and had the Llamas in trouble early at 21-4. Then came the first of 3 extended rain delays, that didn’t help to stop the rot on the resumption of play and Reigate slipped to 59-8 before any sort of partnership was able to be established.
Once the openers had been through their revised allotted overs, a rearguard 9th wicket stand of 38, either side of another rain delay between Richard Stevens (29*) and Luke Beaven (14*) gave the Llamas hope of staging a remarkable fight back in the game.
But with the score at 97-8 with 10 overs left in the innings, the heavens opened once again and any momentum gathered was always likely to be in vain if the game was to be restarted, owing to Duckworth Lewis calculations.
When the clouds had cleared and the Maths was done, Reigate’s innings was declared over leaving Normandy a revised target of 79 to win in 24 overs.
A tough task for the Llamas and although debutant James Taylor made a couple of early inroads, the Normans cruised serenely to their revised target with 7 wickets in hand and 6.1 overs to spare.
