Haughtons Defeat the Normans At The Battle of Llamaland

Normandy won the toss and elected to bat only to find themselves 13-3. Briggs and Hutch opened up brilliantly and applied pressure to the top order by relentlessly bowling at the top of off stump and making the ball move. Some middle order resistance came in the form of the number 5 scoring 50 off 30 balls and playing a counter attacking innings.

At this point it would have been easy to let the game drift but our bowlers stuck to their task brilliantly. Hutch eventually got the danger man which was thoroughly deserved. Irving was introduced onto the attack and soon found good rhythm and contained from one end whilst Wigs found his feet at the other. Irving decided, once Lister bravely offered to do short leg, that he would see what the batsman had to offer on the back foot.

At this point with Normandy looking like making a strong total with the tail wagging a little we turned to Hirst. He delivered a brilliant spell which closed out the innings ending with figures of 4-12 from 6.5 overs. They ended on 158.

We set about negotiating a difficult half hour before lunch and went to the break in a good position with Lister and Luke not out. Shortly after lunch Lister and Hairs dismissed within 2 balls brought the Haughton brothers together. Luke took a leaf out of Rory’s book and took root at the crease to see us home. Luke and Rory’s partnership blossomed into a brilliant 100 which saw us reach Normandy’s target with ease. A brilliant show from the two youngsters who showed how to occupy the crease and score freely all round the ground. A great win and a good all-round team performance.
