By Luke Haughton

With the sun beating down and a green wicket in place, local rivals Banstead decided to bat first to try and make use of the friendly overhead conditions. The new ball was taken as always by Hutch but in what was a surprising turn of McCullum –esque captaincy from Saker, the second over was taken by the left arm offies of Wilbur Tiley. This decision proved to be an inspired choice as Wilbur bowled very tightly, bowling his 14 overs straight through finishing with 14-3-29-2. Hutch at the other end bowled with his usual hammer and produced the moment of the day when the Banstead number 4 chipped one back to him and the big fella took off to his right and the ball nestled in his right hand, ensuring the pitch got a good roll for when we batted. Hutch put in a big stint to bowl his 14 straight and ended with 3 poles for just 39 runs. The openers were then replaced by Mobeen, playing his first 2nd team game, and the change could not have gone better as Mobeen brought one back in to the no. 7 to bring him a wicket with his very first ball. Mobeen bowled accurately and used the pitch to his advantage to grab another wicket and finish with 9 overs 2-18. At the other end spin continued with Haughton L being brought on, the restricting of runs was constant as his 8.2 overs only cost 18 runs. Haughton also finished with 3 wickets as the tail was quickly dealt with. This left the llamas needing just 107 to win with 55 overs to get them.
Henry Tye and Jon Smith opened up, continuing an opening partnership that looked solid against East Molesley. The score was on 20 with neither batsmen seemingly being troubled when a quick single left Tye short of his ground and he was run out for 8. This brought L Haughton to the crease hoping to ensure that Banstead didn’t get a sniff. The two batsman ticked the scoreboard along and comfortably got to 70 when Jon was well caught behind for 35. Younger Haughton then arrived at the crease determined to get the game finished as quickly as he could. Soon after walking across and clipping the ball over square leg for a one bounce in to the fence he was caught at short fine leg with Priory needing 6 more to win. The skipper was then left with a real win win situation as he walked out to bat, he blocked his two deliveries before leaving it for L Haughton to hit the next 2 balls for 4 to win the game and bring up his 50 in the process.
The llamas chased the target down with 27 overs to spare in what was a very comprehensive and clinical win.
