The Pirates claimed two jugs at Park Lane after a comprehensive 5 wicket win at Croydon CC of India with C Mankelow claiming a 4fer and J Wickes back with 56 and to his swashbuckling best.
Asked to field first, the Pirates constantly took wickets and constantly yielded extras. Extras ended up top scorer with 42 added to to the oppos score. On a difficult outfield, the Pirates supported the bowlers with majority of catches snared and some impressive diving for the onlooking crowds.
Pick of the bowlers were Mankelow (4-34) and Kyle Haughton (9-2-11-0) helping to restrict the oppo to 155 from 45 overs, far lower than their previous scores.
Fuelled by a healthy tomato and lettuce sandwich, Wickes and Qasim opened up with Wickes playing the aggressor and Qasim the support act. Soon, Wickes had passed 50 and departed on 56 with the score on 70, precisely what the doctor ordered. The run rate fell after this but the result was never in doubt. A few wickets fell but each man contributed, with one exception.
A comprehensive 5 wicket win ending with 2 boundaries from R.Gurbutt aka R.Astley (never runs around and never lets you down).
