Pirates turned up to "The Home of Cricket" at the Red Lion, undefeated from previous three encounters.
Unfortunately the game was all but gone when we were put into bat first, due to an indifferent pitch which resembled Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates (you never know what you're going to get).
Pirates found themselves 30-5 after some rib snorting deliveries.
The pirates did rally back to post 183 all out after patient batting from Hetherington (32), patience and then power from Manoj (44) and two steady eddies (Bevan 20 and debutant Willocks 15*). Sadly for the 2nd week in a row when going at more than 6 an over against the 4th and 5th bowlers, the pirates were bowled out with 5.4 overs to go. At least 30 runs lost and probably 100 shy of what we needed.
However, with Forrest Gump and an unbeaten start to the season behind them the pirates took to the field with optimism despite knowing the strength of the oppo’s top four.
Sadly the Pirates bowlers were in a generous mood and didn't hit the right lines or lengths and the game was gone in a flash. Economicals’ opening bat (also opening bowler) soon raced to 50 and consistently scored at more than a run a ball.
The game was over with a mere 24.1 overs bowled with highlight being a great catch by Mayes (off a full toss).
A week to forget and a week off from league cricket for the Pirates to train hard, play hard for other llama teams and then aim to return in June with a win.
Even the match report this week was a shambles as Chef Wickes told the story in the bar only for Manoj to switch off half way through - just like his batting.
