The Pirates lost for the second time this season, playing Wandsworth at home last Saturday.
Wandsworth won the toss and piled on the runs in good batting conditions, eventually reaching 274-8 in their 45 overs.
Manoj was the pick of the Priory bowlers, going for just 30 runs from 9 overs and picking up 2 wickets along the way. This was an innings that on another day could have gone very differently, but for two crucial moments. The first was the neutral umpire inexplicably not giving their main batsman out on 2 when caught behind off what must have been the middle of his bat to make such a loud noise. The second was sleepy Rhys dropping a sky-ball from the same batsman off the skippers bowling a few balls later. Wandsworth would likely have been all out for under 200 had either of these gone our way.
The Pirates went out to bat led by Rhys (38) and Jonny (18). However, the pressure of runs on the board showed and wickets tumbled with the Pirates falling from 52-1 to 87-5. Loft(Jr.) and Gurbutt rebuilt, with Loft hitting an excellent 39 before being caught trying to kick on towards a large total. Brewis (17*) and Brickley(31) (yes you read that right) added 62 for the last wicket before Brickers was bowled in the final over. This was way more than we could have hoped for from the final wicket and gained us two more batting bonus points in the process.
