Wandsworth came out comfortably on top against the Pirates at Tolworth Court on Saturday. The Pirates bowled and fielded pretty well and though in the early stages, the oppo threatened to get away, Sham was tight and Matt Weekes picked up an early wicket. Spin trio Ollie Harris, Toby Briggs and Nick Gavigan then put the brakes on, but the trouble was that despite a couple of wickets later on from Tyler Shoare (2-11 off 5) and although Wandsworth never got away, they chugged along comfortably at 4 an over and posted 193-4 - a very un-Surrey Cricket League-like score - which was to prove way too many for the Pirates.
Opening bowler Rafi switched from seam to spin in his second over and took the Pirates apart in taking out the top 5 to leave them marooned at 36-5. In short, there was never going to be any way back from there and whilst the tail, held together by Nick Gavigan wagged a little, a disappointing and comprehensive 100 run defeat ensued. The Pirates sit still in 4th spot and could still grab 2nd or 3rd... so yep: re-group, and come again - onwards, upwards.
