The last fixture of cricket week saw the Trust Team take on neighbours Ashtead.
Instead of the usual 40 over game the Clubs agreed a T20 instead.

Reigate had 1st team regulars Angus Dahl and Sam Hall as well as Rory Haughton all making their 1st appearance of the season for the Trust Team.
Ashtead also had a couple of 1st teamers in their side so we should have been well matched.

Rory won the toss and chose to bat.
Srikanth Vuppala (the only over 21 among the two sides) and Jai Patel (U18) opened.
Bowlers from the pavilion end had to negotiate their way around/over the water sprinkler cover and Jake Martin (U19 Ashtead 2’s) bowled a couple of no balls before getting his run up sorted out and then getting Srikanth (2) out caught & bowled- score 5-1 in the 1st over.

Sam Parker (U14) came in at 3, scored a single but was then bowled by Jake Martin (U19) score 8-2 in the 3rd over. Unfair match-up when the physical difference between a 14 and 19 year old can be the deciding factor rather than the talents of the respective players.

Ollie Thilo (U16) in at 4, got the score moving before being bowled by Jake Martin with the ball of the innings coming back from outside off to make a mess of Ollie’s stumps-score 18-3 in the 5th over.

Captain Rory (U19) in at 5 was then out for a duck caught at mid-on; another wicket to Jake Martin-score 18-4 still in the 5th over. All of the 1st 4 out to Jake Martin (U19 Ashtead 2nd’s).

Sam Hall (U18) then faced the 6th over and proceeded to hit all 6 balls from James Graham (U15) for 4-score 42-4 after the end of the 6 overs power-play.

Spinner Riley Jarrold (U17) then had opener Jai Patel (U18) caught behind by Ashtead keeper/captain Hayden Storey (Ashtead 1st teamer)-score 61-5 in the 8th over.

Still in the 8th over Sam Hall (32 from 8 boundaries) then became Riley Jarrold’s 2nd wicket as he tried a reverse sweep and was caught-score-61-6 after 8 overs.

Next over Tyler Shoare (U16) was out for a duck bowled by Luke Hunter (U15) 70-7 after 9 overs.

Angus Dahl (U19) was joined by Jacob McLoughlin (U15) but Jacob became the next wicket for Riley Jarrold when he was out for a duck caught at mid-on- score 70-8 after 10 overs.

Angus had reverse swept 2 successive deliveries for 4 before trying for a third only to be out LBW to Riley Jarrold- 4 wickets from his 4 overs.

Keeran Kiripakaran hit a couple 4’s behind the wicket and together with U14 Beau Dethridge managed to take us to 89 before we were all out.
Ashtead’s Innings
Tyler Shoare was given the opening over and he too suffered from negotiating around/over the water sprinkler cover in the run ups. 10 from the 1st over and then 13 from Ollie Thilo’s opening over from the Blue Anchor end-score 23-0 after 2 overs.

Another 10 off Tyler’s 2nd over-33-0 after 3 overs.

Spinners introduced into the action with Srikanth Vuppala bowling the 4th over but same result as Ashtead powered on-score 42-0 after 4 overs.

Rory introduced Angus Dahl and the brakes were temporarily applied-score 46-0 after 5 overs.

Who (or what) would come to the Llamas rescue ?
For a brief moment it looked like rain might save the day but after the threatened thunderstorm amounted to just a few spots and Duckworth & Lewis went back to sleep;
the Llamas had to rely on their own efforts.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Srikanth’s 2nd over when he bowled Ashtead opener Captain and 1st teamer Hayden Storey -score 51-1 after 6 overs.

Power-play finished but it didn’t slow down Ashtead as 9 came from Angus’ 2nd over-score 60-1 after 7 overs.

15 than came off Srikanth’s 3rd over-score 75-1 after 8 overs.

The 9th over saw Angus get the second wicket (bowled)-score 76-2 after 9 overs.

Ollie Thilo returned for his 2nd over but couldn’t slow Ashtead down-score 85-2 after 10.

Jake Martin then finished us off hitting Angus for a 6 over square leg to end the match on the 1st ball of the 11th over.

The match lasting less than 25 overs.

Although we had a slightly younger side (Srikanth apart) than our opponents, the pre game expectations from having the Trust team bolstered by the 1st teamers was not matched by the performance and the Llamas were all out for a disappointing and obviously under par 89 after only 14 overs; and only having a target of 90 to win didn’t give some of the younger Llama players (Keeran Kiripakaran, Jacob McLoughlin), a chance to have a bowl.

Highlights-Sam Hall’s 6 4’s in an over.
