East Molesey U21’s were the visitors to Park Lane for the penultimate 40 over a side Surrey Trust League fixture of the season. The Clubs agreed an 11am start to enable the Moles to return home for their President’s Day.
This week’s Captain Ollie Thilo (U16) won the toss and given the uncertainty of our batting strength followed advice and chose to bowl.

East Molesey’s New Zealander Blaine Bannister-a regular in their 2nd eleven-opened the batting along with youngster Patrick Lynch.
Ollie Thilo’s opening over, including 2 balls of 4 leg side wides, went for 17, before fellow opening bowler Seth McDowell (U13) restored order with just a single from his 1st over.
Ollie’s next over saw his accuracy return and he has Patrick Lynch caught behind by Ashwin Bhat for 1. Score 19-1 in the 3rd over.
Seth McDowell (U13) continued with his mixture of his slower balls, flight and good lines and got his 1st wicket in the 10th over when James Cake (14) hit a full toss (it’s sometimes the bad balls that get wickets when loads of good balls go unrewarded) to Manoj Rajaethinam. Score 57-2 in the 10th over.
Theo Colvin (U15) takes over from Seth McDowell (U13) and his 5 overs 0-26 did not give a fair reflection on how well he bowled. Theo bowled in tandem with Manoj Rajarethinam (6 overs 1-19) to keep the lid on the run rate and in Manny’s 2nd over Manoj gets overseas Blaine Bannister playing on for 22-Score 62-3 in the 11th over.
With another regular 2nd eleven Evan Beck starting to accelerate the scoring, it was the introduction of off spinner Sam Glynne-Jones (U14) that changed to progress of the innings.
In the 23rd over (his 2nd) he gets Evan Beck (24) to spoon a catch to Toby Briggs at short mid wicket-Score 117-4 in the 23rd.
In his 3rd over Sam then clean bowls Dan Sultan (3)-Score 123-5 in the 25th over.
In his 4th over Sam then has S Jayasinghe (2) also caught at short mid wicket by Toby Briggs-Score130-6 in the 27th over.
Sam’s not finished and in his 5th over he gets Max Hanson (0) LBW-Score 132-7 in the 29th over.
Sam’s was to finish with figures of 4 for 32 from his allotted 8 overs.
Peter Friend was joining Sam Glynne-Jones (U14) in an all spin attack and with Peter bowling his usual accurate lines Peter got his 1st wicket in his 7th over when he had Joseph Lynch (6) well caught at 1st slip by his bowling partner Sam Glynne-Jones-Score 155-8 in the 34th over.
Peter also gets the next wicket in his next over when Alfie Simmonds-Gooding (4) is caught by Theo Colvin-Score now 172-9.
With the score on 175 in the 37th over the final wicket falls to Seth McDowell (U13) in the only over of his 2nd spell when another catch to Theo Colvin gets Theo Talbot (65) to give Seth figures of 5.2 overs 2 for 34.
Theo Talbot was the main contributor with 65 out of the Moles score of 175.

The Moles opening bowlers were U21 leg spinner S Jayasinghe and 2nd eleven opening bowler Evan Beck and it was Evan Beck who got the 1st wicket when Seb Driscoll (U14) was caught in the covers for 3-Score12-1 in the 4th over.
Fellow opener Ashwin Bhat was joined by Toby Briggs and for someone who hasn’t played too much cricket recently Toby quickly got into his stride finding the middle of his bat to push the score onto 55 in the 15th over when Toby (29) was out LBW attempting to sweep S Jayasinghe in his last over-Score 55-2 in the 15th over.
Beau Dethridge in at number 4, was out without scoring when he hit spinner Jo Lynch to Blaine Bannister in the covers. Score 59-3.
Ollie Thilo (U16) in at 5 is then caught at slip off Max Hanson (U16), also without scoring-Score 60-4
Jai Patel (U18) is then LBW for a 1st ball duck to Max Hanson (U16)-Score 60-5 in the 18th over. Theo Colvin (U15) survives the hat trick ball.

In the 22nd over it is Max Hanson (U16) who gets his 3rd wicket in getting opener Ashwin Bhat (28) caught at mid-on by Jo Lynch-Score 66-6.
In the next over left arm spinner Jo Lynch (U16) has Theo Colvin (U15) caught for a duck at mid on-Score 66-7 in the 23rd over.
Seth Mcdowell (U13) in at number 8 was also caught at mid-on for 5 off the bowling of Alfie Simmonds- Gooding (U14) -Score 82-8 in the 28th over.
Next ball -still in the 28th over –Sam Glynne-Jones (U14) is bowled by Alfie Simmonds- Gooding (U14) for a duck-Score 81-9.
Manoj Rajarethinam and Peter Friend both hit a series of boundaries and took the score up to 114 in the 33rd over when Blaine Bannister gets the final wicket getting Manoj out caught for 28 leaving Peter not out on 12.

The Llamas tried to follow the objective of the Surrey Trust League in giving youngsters a chance to develop their cricket against different age youngsters as well as adults and to that end 23 of the 37 overs were bowled by the youngsters with Peter Friend and Manny sharing the other 14. There were some fine bowling performances from youngsters Seth McDowell, Sam Glynne-Jones and Theo Colvin with varying degrees of success against in some cases older opposition.

Unfortunately the same couldn’t be said of the batting with Seniors Toby (27), Manoj (28) & Peter (12 n.o.) contributing 67 of the 114 runs and of the U21’s only Ashwin Bhat (28) got into double figures and 7 of the youngsters scored a combined 10 runs between them.
