Report by Dick Belcher

Jess Whitcher won the toss in this 35 over a side league match and elected to bat making 1st use of the same pitch used for the Men’s 1st team the previous day.
Both the openers, Lucy Harris and Vicki Howard, hit a 4 in the 1st over before Vicki was lbw to Kate Murray (6-0-42-1) and the Llamas were 9-1 after 1 over. Lily Foster joined Lucy Harris as Lucy scored the lion’s share of their 50+ partnership with Lucy scoring 4 consecutive 4’s in the 15th over before she was caught behind next ball by Zoe Balfour off Samantha Ramgoolam’s bowling (7-0-50-1) for 42 with the Llamas on 71-2. Next over (16th) with the score still on 71 Lily Foster (14) was the 3rd Llama wicket to fall, out lbw to Emma Crandon.
Jess Whitcher pulled a powerful shot just behind square which Anna Plummer bravely tried to catch but next ball Anna was rewarded as she caught Rosie Foster (12) to give Emma Crandon her 2nd wicket (5-0-21-2) as the Llamas were now 95-4 in the 20th over.
The run rate accelerated with some hard hitting from Millie Hetherington (43 runs from 42 balls including 6 fours) and captain Jess Whitcher (55 no from 57 balls including 10 fours) as the pair took the score onto 181 in the 33rd over before the 5th wicket fell as Millie got a glove on a leg-side delivery for a wicket maiden to Crystal Hanslal as Millie was caught behind by Zoe Balfour with just 2 overs of the 35 remaining.
Jess Whitcher hit 4 consecutive fours, passing her 50 in the process. 2 wickets fell in the last over as Ellie Thomas sacrificed her wicket for her team when run out attempting a 2nd run trying to keep Jess on strike. Izzy Wall was out last ball caught behind by Zoe Balfour (3 catches and a birthday cake) to give Crystal Hanslal her 2nd wicket to be the pick of the Streatham bowlers with figures of 7-1-15-2 as the Llamas finished their 35 overs on 200-7.
The Streatham openers Susan Little and Laura Gardiner started well and the 200 target didn’t look out of range as by the 12th over they were 63-0 before Vicki Howard got 2 wickets in 2 balls; firstly bowling Laura Gardiner for 21 and then tempting Sophie Cooper to steer the ball into Millie Hetherington’s hands to see the Streatham at 63-2.
Holly Bolton then bowled Streatham captain Verity Quade (6) for a wicket maiden to have Streatham at 77-3 in the 17th over; but Holly’s next over saw opener Susan Little hit 3 consecutive fours to put a slight dent in Holly’s figures (2-1-14-1). Crystal Hanslal and Susan Little continued to score freely and at 111-3 after 21 overs the 200 target still looked in reach.
Susan Little passed her 50 and with Jess Whitcher using 9 different bowlers it took the one outfield player who didn’t bowl to make the breakthrough as a direct throw from Amba Conway-Sparks ran out Susan Little for an excellent 59 (from 63 balls including 9 fours) to peg Streatham back to 115-4 in the 22nd over.
In the 23rd over Lucy Harris then dismissed Crystal Hanslal (27) as Crystal hit one in the air towards Izzy Wall. Izzy seemed to have run in too far but still managed to leap up and take a one handed catch and 120-5 was 120-6 next ball as Lucy Harris (3-0-16-2) had Zoe Balfour lbw. The match looked in the Llamas control as Streatham needed 80 more runs in the 12 remaining overs with 4 wickets in hand.
Lily Foster (7-0-25-1) and sister Rosie then combined to dismiss Kate Murray as Kate was caught behind by Rosie for 13 for 142-7 in the 28th over. Next over Ellie Thomas (6-0-21-1) made this 146-8 bowling Samantha Ramgoolam for 1 before the 9th wicket fell in the next over (30th) as fast bowling Millie Hetherington (3-0-22-1) got a ball to lift and find the edge of Izzy Marin-Curtoud’s bat to be caught behind by Rosie Foster for 16 for 153-9.
It was Vicki Howard, who was the pick of the Llama bowlers with figures of 4.2-0-12-3, who wrapped up a win for the Llamas as Vicki bowled Anna Plummer (4) as the Streatham innings ended in the 34th over on 159 all out earning the Llamas 25 points (to Streatham’s 12) that takes the them to top of the table, after 4 of the season’s 10 league games.
