Our Cup Runneth run is Over

Brijesh Patel & Sumair Qasim opened for the Llamas but struggled to get going against the South Nutfield opening bowlers of Captain Matt Lewis and fellow opening bowler Dylan Campbell. Brijesh edged the 1st ball of the game over the top of slip for 4 but was out in the 2nd over for 5, with the score on 5, when he was caught at backward point by Alex Smith off the bowling of Dylan Campbell.

In the 5th over with Sumair on 5, he was caught at mid on by Jack Bellars off Matt Lewis and the Llamas were 18-2. This was soon 24-3 at the end of the 6th over as Simon Brewis was the 3rd one out with their individual score on 5 when he got an inside edge onto his stumps to become Dylan Campbell’s 2nd wicket (3-0-10-2)

Sam Clark and Michael Ramsden then pushed on as in the next 10 overs they took the score past the 100. Sam was on 48 having hit 5 fours and a six and on the last ball of the 17 over Sam went for the big hit which would have seen him retire passing 50, when he was caught on the boundary by Matt Lewis off the bowling of Damien Hutchinson (4-0-25-1) and the Llamas had recovered to 104-4 with 3 overs left.

Ross Gurbutt joined Rambo and the pair took the score to 122 when Ross (6) was 5th out bowled by Matt Lewis (4-0-21-2). Manoj came to the wicket for the last ball of the innings and his 2 runs saw the innings close on 124 with Rambo not out on 30.

The total looked a shade under par but with a strong bowling line up the Llamas we’re up for the challenge. South Nutfield got off to a fast start as Muhammad Fayyaz (14) smashed Manoj for a 6 & a 4 before Manoj got the upper hand as Brijesh Patel took the catch at deep mid on and South Nutfield lost their 1st wicket with the score on 19 after just 10 balls of their innings. However just 1 run from the next over from Mobeen Tahir as he temporarily put the brakes on as he bowled Alex Smith for 6 for 24-2 after 3 overs.

Three 4’s by Jack Bellars from the 1st 3 balls of Manny’s next over returned the momentum back to South Nutfield before Manny then bowled Sam Abellan for a duck and the Llamas were clawing their way into the game as South Nutfield were 38-3 after just 4 overs. Further success as Mobeen (4-1-13-2) bowled a wicket maiden (very rare in T20’s) bowling Will Jones for a duck and it was now 38-4 after 5 overs.

With the run rate slowing down but still ahead of the asking rate, Jack Bellars and keeper Mark Pereira took the score up to 73 when in the 12th over Manoj (4-0-37-3) bowled Mark Pereira for 12 for the 5th wicket to fall. Joe Harrington joined Jack Bellars and got into his stride straight away.

At this stage the target was about a run a ball so the Llamas needed to keep taking wickets and they did just that as a direct throw from Ollie Harris ran out Jack Bellars (45 with 6 fours) as he approached a well earned 50 and South Nutfield lost their 6th wicket with the score now 88-6 in the 15th over. This was soon to be 95-7 as in the next over Ollie Harris, bowling the 16th over in an excellent spell of 4-0-19-1, was in the game once again as he bowled opposition Captain Matt Lewis (4).

Dylan Campbell joined Joe Harrington and the pair took the score to 113 when from the last ball of the 17th over the 8th wicket fell as Callum Gurbutt bowled Dylan (3) With 2 overs left South Nutfield were 113-8 needing a run a ball from the remaining 12, but the Llamas had been taking wickets (8 in 18 overs) so were not out of this contest with Shayne Cossey and Callum Gurbutt to bowl the final 2 overs.

South Nutfield’s Number 10 Damien Hutchinson (5 no) joined Joe Harrington (29 no) and with just 3 balls left they reached their target of 125 to take them into the semi-finals where we wish them good luck.
